A Man Like Me Book
WHAT: The new book entitled “A Man like Me” My journey to Manhood, and the Mistakes I made along the way, chronicles my life from adolescence to adulthood as well as some of the mistakes I made along the way. By being born a male destiny had defined my fate at birth, and like many boys society dictated the type of man I would become. All throughout my life I failed trying to live up to those expectations of manhood. I became the man that I am today because of the mistakes I made in my past. During my journey I learned of the strength and courage that women possess and became an advocate to reduce violence against them. I formed an organization REALMAD (Real Men against Domestic Violence). Our purpose is to engage men and teach them our role in ending violence against women.

WHY: In: 1st Corinthians chapter 13 verse 11It states: When I was a child, I talked like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I put the ways of childhood behind me. Truth is when I became a man at eighteen I didn’t know what to do. Ya see all my life I was raised to believe that to be a man you have to be brave, strong, a protector, a provider, and never show weakness or emotion but most of all never cry. As I think about that today, I remember the words of Malcolm X “You've been had” “You’ve been took!” “You’ve been hoodwinked” “Bamboozled! Led astray! Run amuck!” “We didn’t land on Plymouth Rock, Plymouth Rock landed on us.” Everything I learned about being a man was a lie. So where do I go from here?
