A Welcoming Place to Begin Again
The Palmetto Hope Women’s Shelter is more than a safe house — it’s a home. Designed to feel warm, supportive, and restorative, our shelter provides women with a place to rest, heal, and begin again after experiencing domestic violence or other dangerous situations.

A Home of Healing
Set up like a real family home, our shelter includes:
- 5 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms with shared living spaces that welcome community and comfort.
- Fully stocked kitchen, along with toiletries and daily necessities.
- Computers and Wi-Fi access for job searches, education, and staying connected to supportive friends and family.
- Transportation support when needed to ensure safety and access to essential services.
Though small, our shelter has big hearts behind it — created in response to an urgent need in the Tri-County area.

Leaving is the most dangerous time for victims of abuse
Leaving an abusive relationship is never simple. On average, it takes survivors seven attempts before leaving for good. The risk of harm is highest during this time, as abuse often escalates when an abuser senses they are losing control.
For years, with no local shelter available, survivors in Charleston, Berkeley, and Dorchester Counties were placed in motels. While they offered a temporary roof, motels are isolating, unsafe, and not conducive to healing. The Palmetto Hope Women’s Shelter was created to fill this gap, offering both safety and stability in a supportive, home-like environment.
Through our Navigational Center, we also help survivors create personalized safety plans—reducing risks, supporting long-term recovery, and ensuring that women are never alone in the process of leaving.
